Dannevirke High School
Dannevirke High School was founded in 1903 and has a proud history of academic, sporting and cultural achievement. Located in Dannevirke, it draws students from the town of Dannevirke and other settlements nearby which service the large surrounding rural area. It is a co-ed school for boys and girls aged between 14 – 18 years old (Years 9-13).
Dannevirke High School strives to continually improve our excellent results for NCEA Levels 1, 2, and 3. Success reflects from a combination of great teaching, strong leadership and hard work from everybody associated with the School, including the Board of Trustees, School staff and leaders, students, families and Whānau. It also reflects the dedication and focus of the School on all students. Our students regularly achieve above national averages for our NCEA results.
DHS English department has been very successful in producing high calibre Speech Makers – for example: Y13 student won the National award, from all of NZ, to speak in USA and Canada. And a Year 10 student won the regional Junior competition, plus other students being placed in the top 3 for Regional Junior and Senior Speech Competition.
Many students perform in local productions/shows. Performing Arts Department has had contestants 2 years in a row in the top 3 in NZ for Rockquest Band.
The school regularly competes in the regional MATHEX competitions with very respectable results.
A former International student who was DHS dux, and attended Otago University has been conducting research in experimental Nano photonics, all over world. She has published and co-authored several scientific articles.
Most of our graduates attend universities throughout New Zealand, with the recent 2 international students gaining University Entrance and being accepted for Medicine and Tourism Management at Auckland universities.
